electrochromeric display (ECD)

A low-voltage, low-current device that chemically transforms itself from a transparent to an opaque state when tickled by an external electric field. Even after this electrical field is turned off, these devices maintain their opacity; only when subjected to a field an opposite polarity do they return to their initial state.
